Drones to help isolated patients in rural Wales

Aberystwyth University researchers have said drones could be used to deliver blood or hospital medicine to isolated patients in rural Wales.

The university researchers began testing on the drones as ‘a reliable and low-cost way’ to reach remote patients. Dr Rachel Rahman, from the University, described how the project has included members of the public to take care of the uncertainty and concerns about what drones mean for the future.

According to a report from the BBC, researchers said they could deliver to hospitals or home addresses with ‘little human intervention.’

It is hoped the results from the project will lead to prototypes and further study on how drones are put into practise to transport mobile defibrillators, samples, blood and medical equipment.
